Escorts for Koneru’s pilgrimage
The
CBI special court granted interim bail to Emaar scam accused Koneru
Prasad to go to Sabarimala for pilgrimage. However, Mr Prasad will be
under constant surveillance by three police personnel who will escort
him to the pilgrimage. The escort personnel will also double up as
security and safeguard him as he is the key man in the scam and has to
be protected. The CBI court, while granting interim bail on humanitarian
grounds till November 22, laid down the condition that Mr Prasad will
have to surrender his passport, submit personal bond and sureties worth
Rs 50,000 and bear the expenses of escort personnel.
The
CBI opposed the bail plea, saying that it was likely that Mr Prasad
could transfer funds if he was given interim bail. The CBI further said
that the final beneficiaries from the scam were yet identified.
The agency also said that the probability existed of the accused jumping bail and fleeing the country or intimidating witnesses.
