TRS complains to Guv police acting tough

The TRS on Thursday complained to the Governor, Mr E.S.L. Narasimhan, against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government’s excessive police harassment of T-activists and sought the withdrawal of all cases against them.
The TRS MLAs, who met the Governor at the Raj Bhavan, also sought a neutral officer as the Director General of Police.
The TRS is up in arms against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government ever since the Preventive Detention (PD) Act was slapped against its politburo member, Dr C. Sudhakar, and the booking of criminal cases against several T-activists for participation in various agitations including the rail roko programme.
The Governor promised to look into the issue.
“We requested the Governor to withdraw cases against Dr Sudhakar and other T-activists,” Mr K.T. Rama Rao, MLA said.
Besides, Mr Rama Rao, Mr Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Mr Satyanarayana, Dr Rajaiah, Mr Ravinder Reddy and Mr Gampa Goverdhan also complained to the Governor about police excesses.
“The attitude of the police machinery in the T-region is worse than that of the British. The DGP is acting vindictively against T-movement and its leaders to suppress it. Only a neutral officer can restore confidence in the police, the TRS said in its petition to the Governor.
