MP Rajagopal seeks time from Speaker

The Congress MP from Bhongir, Mr K. Rajagopal Reddy, met the Lok Sabha Speaker, Ms Meira Kumar, on Thursday and sought some time to think about his resignation which was tendered along with eight other Congress MPs on July 4 over the creation of a Telangana. He did not divulge contents of the conversation with the Speaker.
“I am committed to Telangana. And I am ready for any kind of a sacrifice for the sake of Telangana,” Mr Reddy said after the 15-minute meeting with the Speaker. Refusing to divulge what transpired at the meeting with Ms Kumar, he said the conversation was confidential. “The conversation I had with the Speaker is confidential and not for public consumption,” he said.
Ms Kumar had rejected the resignation of eight Congress MPs along with that of two other MPs from the TD and the TRS while keeping in abeyance the resignation by Mr Rajagopal Reddy.
Mr Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy’s resignation is also pending with the Speaker though his resignation has nothing to do with T-state. He quit in protest against the inclusion of the late Y.S. Rajasekar Reddy’s name in the FIR that was filed against Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Meanwhile, the Speaker told reporters that the two resignations were under her consideration. “They are at my discretion,” she said.
MPs whose resignations were earlier rejected by Mrs Kumar are Ponnam Prabhakar, G S Reddy, M Jagannath, S Rajaiah, P Balram Nayak, G. Vivekanand, Suresh Shetkar and Madhu Goud Yakshi from the Congress and TDP MPs, Ramesh Rathod and Namma Nageswara Rao, and TRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao and party MP Vijayashanti.
