Jagan challenges CBI court order
The YSR Congress party chief and Kadapa MP, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, moved the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday challenging Wednesday’s decision of the special judge for CBI cases who directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to furnish copies of all the documents sought for by income-tax officials at the cost of the petitioners in the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and Emaar cases.
The income-tax departments in Bengaluru and AP had filed separate petitions in the court seeking soft copies of all documents seized in Jagan’s disproportionate assets case and the Emaar-APIIC scam to complete assessment proceedings.
Jagan Mohan Reddy, in his petition contended that there was no provision in the Criminal Procedure Code to allow the I-T department to seek documents or property from a trial court. He told the court that I-T department’s prayer was vague, sweeping and ambiguous.
He also stated that the I-T department should make its assessment on the basis of returns filed by him, instead of seeking material gathered by another agency.
