Though this is the first CBI probe for Chandrababu Naidu, he is not new to investigations. In YSR regime, he had faced 26 probes from various agencies. After Congress returned to power in 2004, YSR ordered a series of probes by various agencies into some of the decisions taken by Mr Naidu. Last July 14, the SC upheld a High Court judgment that the complaint filed against Mr Naidu and other TD leaders in a corruption case was “politically motivated.” A bench comprising Justice Marka-ndeya Katju and Justice T.S. Thakur dismissed a special leave petition filed by Naguluri Krishna Kumar Goud challenging the HC order.

In 2003, a special anti-corruption court had ordered a probe into Mr Goud’s complaint that Naidu and other TD leaders had caused a loss of Rs 500 crore to state exchequer by awar-ding excise contracts on extraneous considerations. The leaders challenged the special court’s direction and HC quashed the complaint, observing that the case was “politically motivated.” YSR also ordered a probe into the allotment of 800 acres of land to IMG Bharata for setting up sports academies in Shamshabad and Gachibowli area. He cancelled the allotment of land forcing the promoters to move the courts. A Cabinet sub-committee probe was ordered into the allotment of land during Mr Naidu’s rule, particularly around Hyderabad. Except for the IMG land allotment, all other allotments were revalidated, including the allotment of land to the Rahejas.
